More than a thousand participants and 60 speakers attended the Third International Ayahuasca Congress held in Girona. Among them were important indigenous leaders from the Amazon currently engaged in environmental struggles.
Ayahuasca is a preparation with psychoactive effects made from the plant Banisteriopsis caapi.
It is considered sacred by the indigenous communities of the Amazon jungle, who attribute healing properties to it. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the role of ayahuasca in building a sustainable future. During his stay at Camping Castell Mar, the naturalist and general manager of the Mascort group, Jordi Sargatal, explained to his audience the involvement of the Mascort group in sustainable tourism, in particular with Castell Mar and its long running campaign to protect the environment and in particular the Natural Park of Aiguamolls del Empordà.
