Near Castell Mar there is a vast expanse of reeds, which is the typical vegetation found near lakes, and where for the third consecutive year about 500,000 swallows from all over Europe stop to rest on their migratory route. If you would like to observe these swallows the best time to stay on the campsite is between mid August and mid September.
These birds feed mainly on insects. Each specimen eats about 20 mosquitoes daily. This equates to millions of mosquitoes being devoured every day by the congregation of swallows.
The Camping Castell Mar clients are the first beneficiaries of the presence of these swallows. They can enjoy the beauty of their flights and also benefit from the proliferation of mosquitoes being controlled naturally.
